Welcome
Furness Goju Ryu Karate Club Every Thursday evening 6:30pm to 8:00pm at: Walney Community Centre, Central Drive, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria UK LA14 3HY Our sessions are for adults aged 18+ and are suitable for the over 40s. What We Do Goju Ryu Karate is an art that comes from the island of Okinawa. It is primarily practised for self-defence. The system is organised around the study of 12 kata. Kata are sequences of techniques laid out in a logical pattern. Each sequence contains techniques and principles for dealing with common situations. In addition to learning the moves, practitioners then study the meaning of each movement and apply it in a self-defence context. The next stage is to engage in free play against a non-compliant training partner to develop skills. The kata we study are: Gekisai Dai Ichi, Gekisai Dai Ni, Sanchin, Saifa, Seiyunchin, Shisochin, Tensho, Sanseiru, Sepai, Kururunfa, Sesan and Suparinpei.
